Hello! I'm Emma, I’m a London-based yoga teacher who specialises in teaching Ashtanga yoga. I’m a Thai Yoga Massage therapist and a yoga philosophy student, and I run the Mysore Ashtanga program at Oru Space in South East London.

I started practicing yoga when I moved to London in 2012. Although I love London now, especially the small pocket of South East London I currently inhabit, I found it to be completely overwhelming to begin with. Yoga gave me a way of moving my body that soothed my frazzled nervous system and settled my mind. It has been an important part of my life ever since.

I moved to London to for an art degree course, studying painting, and I ended up with an MA in the history and conservation of Buddhist art. Discovering Buddhism’s ancient material culture while being immersed in its modern-day community, or sangha, solidified my Buddhist beliefs - that everything is always changing, we are all interconnected, and we can help each other out of suffering.

I was drawn to Thai Yoga massage because of its Buddhist framework. It is considered to be an embodied mindfulness meditation, and a physical application of ‘Loving Kindness’, or metta. I apply this approach to my teaching, too.

I have taught in schools, shelters, and community centres. In addition to nurses, children, parents and carers, I have worked with neurodiverse young people, including those with non-verbal autism and PMLD. I have seen yoga benefit people from all walks of life, and I am completely convinced that these practices are for everyone with a human heart, mind, and spirit.
